Tape 3, side 1: Yiayia Maria and Costa, Katina talking during her visit with us in Dracut. She talks about Peri and George. Katina jokes about Dimitri not understanding the value of money. Costa says Maria is an early riser — gets up at 6:00 a.m. Discuss John and Irene, Spiro and Loukia in Greece. Katina burns the steaks. Yiayia jokes, Costa will divorce you for burning the steaks. He says, I’ll forgive her this first time.

Tape 3, side 2: Dimitri reads a story. Maria fusses and screams. Dimitri and Maria play. Costa plays with Maria, she says “don’t ba.” She says Yiayia when she sees the tape recorder. Costa sings Yerakina.

Costa tries to get Maria to speak. She babbles. Dimitri does not want to recite math problems for the tape recorder.
This was near the end of Costa’s one-year sabbatical, before M/A-COM offered him a permanent job. At one point Costa and I can be heard discussing his job options for the U.S. (none), and our return to Crete. He says he will have to push for university-sponsored housing [once we are back in Iraklion].
