What this is

As our media marches tirelessly on to all digital formats, a lot of family memories are getting left behind.  I think it’s fantastic that many services have cropped up to transfer our cherished films and camcorder videos to DVDs, and if I wanted video transfers done quickly and painlessly, I’d probably opt for those services.

But I am way too much of a video weenie to give all the fun to someone else.  I’m no pro, but I recognize a challenge when I see one. A lot of my family’s home movies are not in great condition, so I’m going to try my hand at fixing some of them up a bit. Unless otherwise noted, the videos here have been digitized by myself or my mom. In the future this site may host videos digitized by a third party, but I will make sure to note their work when hosting their files.

The other reason I’m opting to use online streaming video services like Vimeo, and web content management systems like WordPress, is because, to me, a DVD gathering dust in the closet is about as useful as a film reel degrading in an old cardboard box. Nowadays so many family members simply don’t live near each other anymore, and I’d like to have access to these videos easily without having to fish through stale old boxes and try to read faded and peeling labels. Online video storage lets me find what I want quickly and easily, and I hope it’ll be easier for my family as well.
